THE REFILL CHEMICAL I RECEIVED IS SMALL AND FALLS THROUGH THE MESH DOME WHEN REFILLING THE DAMP CHECK DOME MOSITURE ABSORBER UNIT. WHAT CAN I DO? Variation in chemical pellet size cannot be controlled. If the chemical is small it is recommended that you cover the top of the mesh dome with plastic food wrap when re-filling according to the labeled instructions. This will prevent small chemical from passing through the mesh. Once the unit is fully assembled the plastic wrap can be removed. There are also simple alternative instructions for filling the Dome Moisture Absorber unit. Click on the tab for "Dome Alternative Filling".
HOW DOES DAMP CHECK MOISTURE ABSORBER WORKAND HOW WOULD I BENEFIT FROM USING IT?
Damp Check’s super absorbent formula absorbs excess moisture (humidity) from the air. Excess moisture creates an environment that can lead to problems such as damp, musty odors, rust, mildew and mold. Closets, bathrooms and basements are very susceptible to humidity problems. Lowering the moisture level eliminates the moist environment that contributes to these problems. A typical home has several gallons of water trapped in the upholstered furniture alone. Damp Check’s super absorbent formula can absorb several times its own weight in excess moisture.
HOW LONG WILL A DAMP CHECK MOISTURE ABSORBER UNIT LAST? That depends. Heat, moisture (humidity) levels and size of area being protected are the keys. In cooler weather the humidity level drops and the absorption rate slows down. In warmer weather or rainy seasons, the humidity increases and the absorption rate speeds up. It also depends on how large an area is. In small confined areas without much air flow, the unit can last for several months. In larger spaces, the unit will normally last several weeks to a month.
HOW MANY DAMP CHECK UNITS SHOULD I USE? That depends on the size of the area to be protected and what size DAMP CHECK moisture absorber you are using. Use one 12 oz absorber for a small closet. Use two or more for a walk-in closet. If using our 16 oz Dome or 24 oz Room Size, use one per closet and up to four for a large room or basement. A good rule of thumb is one or two per 100 square feet. If the units are empty in 3 weeks or less, add another unit.
CAN DAMP CHECK MOISTURE ABSORBERS BE REUSED? Absolutely.DAMP CHECK Moisture Absorber units are designed to be refilled and reused many times. Economical DAMP CHECK refills are available in three different sizes (12 oz, 48 oz, and 64 oz). Unopened refill packets have an unlimited shelf life and will be fresh and ready to use when opened. For maximum effectiveness, refill the unit before all the pellets have dissolved.
THE ACTIVE INGREDIENT HAS HARDENED AND NO MOISTURE IS PRESENT IN THE BOTTOM UNIT. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG? Not really. This just means that there is enough moisture present to harden the active ingredient, but not enough to liquefy it. Don’t discard the hardened chemical. It is still good. When the humidity level increases the unit will begin absorbing again and ultimately begin to deposit trapped moisture in the base unit.
WHY DOES THE ACTIVE INGREDIENT SOMETIMES HAVE A PINKISH COLOR? Not to worry. This can be caused by impurities in the air or trace minerals in the active ingredient. This does not affect the performance or effectiveness of the unit.
WHY DO ICE-LIKE CRYSTALS SOMETIMES FORM IN THE BOTTOM UNIT? This can be caused by a sudden drop in temperature or humidity level. When this occurs, some of the trapped moisture will leach back into the air leaving a crystal-like formation. These will liquefy once the humidity level increases. If you don’t want to wait, simply pour water on them until they liquefy.
HOW DO I DISPOSE OF THE TRAPPED MOISTURE? Just flush the trapped moisture down the toilet. It’s that simple, and DAMP CHECK pellets are also sewer and septic tank safe.
IF SOME OF THE TRAPPED LIQUID ACCIDENTALLY SPILLS, WHAT DO I DO? Using a wet towel, wipe the area where the spill occurred. If it is a carpeted area, a Wet/Dry Vacuum is recommended. In some instances, the carpet may need steam cleaning to completely flush out all traces of active ingredient as it will continue to draw moisture until completely removed. If spilled on clothes, wash or dry clean in the usual way. The active ingredient will shrink and harden leather and corrode metal, so make sure you do not use where accidental spillage can contact these materials.
IS DAMP CHECK MOISTURE ABSORBER SAFE TO USE AROUND CHILDREN AND PETS? DAMP CHECK’s active ingredient is a basic salt form which is odorless, non-toxic and therefore poses minimal risk to children or pets. Since the product will produce a liquid, it should be placed in a location where access to small children or pets is limited to avoid spillage. As with any salt form, it is an irritant, so be careful not to get any particles or solution in your eyes. Because it does not produce any odors or vapors it will not affect sensitive respiratory systems.
2 - AIR FRESHENERS:
HOW DO THE DAMP CHECK AIR FRESHENER DISCS WORK? Unlike traditional air fresheners that only mask odors with a fragrance that lasts only a few days, DAMP CHECK Air Freshener Disc and DAMP CHECK Auto Air Freshener Disc have a unique, non-fragranced formula that absorbs and eliminates most any odor and leaves the protected area clean and fresh smelling for months. In smaller confined spaces, they can last even up to a year. They are ideal for use almost anywhere as they do not leave a residual odor on clothes, furniture or stored items.
IS IT OK TO HANG A DAMP CHECK AIR FRESHENER DISC FROM THE REAR VIEW MIRROR OF MY VEHICLE OR LAY IT ON THE DASH? DAMP CHECK Air Freshener Disc works best when placed under the seat of the vehicle out of direct sunlight. Hanging from the rear view mirror or laying on the dashboard or console could subject them to magnified heat which could in extreme cases melt the disc. The disc can be partially or completely removed from the wrapper to achieve the desired level of freshening.
